How to make an NTSC TV work on PAL system ?
-
I bought Sharp LC-26GA5U 26" AQUOS Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD TV from http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00070E8LK The problem is that the TV is NTSC and in India only Pal system works. Does anybody know of a way to make it work ? Somebody else had the same problem ? I even bought a PAL to NTSC convertor off ebay but that only takes input in the form of Audio/Video and therefore works with my DVD player. I want a PAL to NTSC convertor that takes RF input from my cable television provider and converts that signal from Pal to NTSC and supply that as input to my NTSC TV.

I'm not quite sure if this will work, but the easiest thing for you to do is to find a cheap PAL VCR and plug your cable TV into that, then plug it into the NTSC/PAL converter using A/V cables. I say a VCR because you need the RF Demodulator that will convert the signal from RF to audio/video, but before you can do that you need to tune into the channel that you want to watch. VCRs have the capability built in to do both of these things. Only problem is that I have never heard of PAL VCRs before, and when I looked them up on Google, they were quite expensive. I suggest that you see if you can find one to borrow and test it with before you buy one. Hope this helps.

They are very different, and it takes a special (and rare) TV to work with both systems. NTSC was north america, and PAL was most of europe. There was also SECAM in other parts of Europe. You can find lists of countries on line with their old broadcast standard. PAL has a better picture than NTSC as I recall. BUT that is all obsolete now with the new digital standards. NTSC and PAL are only used in older TVs that now need a converter to be able to receive digital broadcasts. .
