How do I install gauge cluster?

Original Gauge Cluster Jeep?

• OK so I just bought a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. I got my previous vehicle from the same place and the owner is kind of a family friend. As i was test driving it i noticed the cluster wasn't working entirely right and they said they would have it fixed by Friday. Well we went back Friday and they said its fine and if it doesn't work by Monday bring it back and we will fix it. Well we took it back and they started acting all shady saying they are only going to fix the gas gauge. Then they said they had a used cluster but it will show 160k miles instead of 70k. Which got me thinking and i believe they switched out the original cluster (160k) with a 70k cluster to make the sell. So I got looking around and i cant find a single Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same cluster as the 70k miles one that was in the Jeep. The 70k mile one was completely white and all the other jeeps have a black cluster. We haven't seen the 160k cluster yet but if its black like all the other jeeps then I'm going to question them til no end. Anyways is there any way you can match the original cluster to the original vehicle? or any advice on the situation is greatly appreciated

  hmmm .... with 'friend' like that .... There is a tsb for '99 cherokee that describes erratic cluster operation and the fix. Basically it is a connecter replacement. does not require cluster replacement. If the cluster is replaced, a certification of original mileage will be required. I don't know of a way to match original cluster to original vehicle, but there should be a part number on the cluster that is specific to the vehicles and years it fits.
