2007 mustang v6 makes a clicking noise?
-
So its been going on for a while....right after my warranty ended i started to get this weird clicking noise that would go faster as the rpms increase. Now the noise only comes about right after i get an oil change. Every time i do an oil change the clicking noise comes back. and i can hear it at idle and when i raise the rpms i can tell it gets faster but if i go too high my exhaust drowns out everything so cant tell after that haha. My spark plugs are brand new and so are my wires so cant be there. And it cant be an exhaust leak because the noise only comes about after every oil change. The noise does go away after a couple weeks slowly. it just clicks less and after a while its gone again until my next oil change. i was in the ford fact program at UTI but they wouldn't let me hook up my car to fords diagnostic computer to even use the tool to see where the noise is coming from exactly. All i know is that the noise is most audible from the middle top of the passenger side of the engine. I've been told it could be a lifter but what makes me scratch my head is that usually an oil change would help with a lifter that's acting up...at least a little bit usually. I would like to get more insight of where to rip open my engine from first haha rather than just jump in blind. Please any suggestions from anyone please!

Answer:
Sounds like a sticky valve. Get a stethoscope for a car and run it along the valve cover on that side. Maybe try a little thinner viscosity oil next time.

Are you not putting enough oil in it? Either that or the fresh oil is allowing the failing valve or whatever to make more noise, and as it gets less lubricating it quiets it down. I would get a mechanic to check it out ASAP - you are probably doing more damage to the car continuing to drive it like that. Ask friends or family members if they can recommend someone reliable.
