How to change thermostat on dodge dakota?

1994 Dodge Dakota Driving me nuts?

  • I recently picked up a lil 1994 Dodge Dakota V6 for a nice bargain. Well, it had a problem, thru my shade tree mechanic ways, I was able to determine the problem was a bad radiator. Thanks to some of you also who helped lead me to this area. I am by no means a mechanic, but can do some stuff.. Any way, I have changed the thermostat, radiator and today, the vehicle ran absolutely mint, I was actually happy with my new weekend runner: dump, kayak, etc.. But just now, as I entered the driveway, the truck just shut off. Battery is very good, engine was not hot, the only think I am noticing NOW the Oil Icon is coming on. I just did a oil change on June 5th. Now, when I try to start the truck, it will not turn over, it sounds like a normal vehicle as it starts.. Just wont turn over.. The Oil Icon light is not on with the dash, the oil pressure remains at the L level, does not go up at all during the start.. I am at a loss, I have spent a bit of money on this thing, just curious about some opinions here.. Thanks Brian

    You might have a bad ignition switch, a bad or loose ground wire somewhere. Could also be a failed coil, failed fuel pump, or failed PCM. zxc090

I'am just wondering Brian what the oil looked like before you had changed it and was it dirty or had any gunk in it.Maybe the oil pressure should be checked and the oil pressure sensor plus the wiring.It's also possible that the screen is clogged or dirty and you may want to check/clean it or try flushing the oil with something like STP oil flush. From what you're saying it sounds like the engine is cranking or turning over but not starting.Check the ignition coil and pick up coil, also check their connections especially on the ignition coil.Also check it's housing look for any cracks, bulges or discolouring, all are signs of a faulty coil.
