What do i need to change my rear struts?

Replacing Struts on 03 Dodge Neon SE?

  • So I am just going to put some new struts on, I can deal with the springs. If I had more money I would replace both, but since the cheapest set of springs/struts is around $600, I will pass. My car is old, and I dont wanna dump too much more $$$ into it. So I am thinking of going with the KYB GR2 struts, they seem to be the best bang for the buck. What do you guys think? Also, I think I am going to need a few camber kits. Are they hard to put on, and which ones do you recommend? Lastly, If I am just replacing the struts, what all should I be replacing. Currently I plan on just changing the struts and the strut mounts. Anything else I should change?

  • Answer:

The GR2 (now called the Excel-G officially to bring the naming and coloring {switching from silver to black} in line with the rest of the world) is a great strut, if you don't do any towing or drive your Neon like a race car it will be perfect for you. You definitely don't need to replace the springs every time your struts wear out, only if you actually have problems. We recommend that our customers replace the spring seats as well as the mounts and boots when replacing struts, or at least have a mechanic check them out. It's a couple extra dollars now, but if you need a mechanic to pull the assembly off again to replace them down the line, it could be hundreds then.
