  It really depends on what you plan to be doing and how accessible where you live will be to daladalas or taxis. On vacation in Dar, I ordinarily spent less than $15 USD each day, including hotel expenses and food. (Only about $5-8 for living expenses.) However, if you're planning to "live it up" or drive or catch cabs everywhere or eat at 'tourist' restaurants regularly, expect to spend much more than that. If you plan on $600 USD for living expenses each month you should have more than enough for a normal, somewhat social life. Just remember, each person spends differently & things have a way of adding up quickly when you least expect it. As an example, a beer at a "neighborhood" hoteli runs 60-80 cents USD, but in a tourist or expat area, the same beer, possibly better refrigerated, can run more than $2 USD.
