How do you open a coconut?

How can I open a Coconut monkey bank?

  • I have this coconut monkey bank that a friend gave me and i was wondering if anyone has one of these and if they know how to open one or if it like a piggy bank and i have to smash it which would be hard since it is made out of coconut.

  • Answer:

Try drilling a hole at least 1 inch in diameter, at the base of the monkey. Empty the coins, and the hole can be plugged up and you can re-use the bank.

I used to live in Tahiti. Here's how: Strip off any husk. Take a knife, machete or hammer. Using the NON SHARP edge, whack the nut on its equator at each of the three ribs that run down from pole to pole. After about 5 whacks, the nut will split.

I know exactly the bank you are talking about. My son has one! Hopefully yours came with a little tool attached to it -- it is pointed on one end but not super sharp. Poke that tool (or if you don't have it, use a screwdriver or key or something) through the soft part on the bottom of the bank. It should poke right through and with a little wiggling of the tool, you can release the money that is inside. Good luck!

Get a large thick knife like a machette and hack away. This is how they open coconuts on the reality series 'Survivor.' You could also open it with a saw.
