Where can I camp in Michigan cheep?

Check the state parks. There are plenty of locations to choose from and the camping fees are generally dirt cheap. It's useful to reserve your campsite online. Most state parks aren't open yet, they don't open until 4/22. The ones that do have winter camping are: Mitchell State Park (Cadillac), Traverse City and Rifle River (these three have heated restrooms available in the winter), the others are Algonac, Bay City, Fort Custer, Ludington, North Higgins Lake, Tahquamenon Falls and Waterloo Recreation Area-Portage. Waterloo is near Jackson, and would probably be your best bet for one night. Here is the website for more information/reservations. Note, however, that you can't make reservations on-line for only one night. You will have to call, but I am sure there won't be a problem with spaces! http://www.midnrreservations.com/SearchPark.aspx Also note that you need to buy the Passport for your vehicle license now, and not a sticker for the windsheild. State Forests are open and you don't need a reservation, but most of them are up north, quite a drive for just one night.

right now might still be snow, so most campgrounds won't be open til summer. however, you can camp anywhere within a national forest for free, so that would be your best option.
