Citizens ID card?

For UK citizens, can you travel with an ID card to other European countries without a passport?

  • Answer:

A passport or a national identity card (a photocard issued by a state showing personal data and citizenship) is required for EU/EEA citizens. As the UK does not issue national ID cards, British citizens should use passports.

Despite what others have said, the events of 9/11, the London Bombings and the failed liquid bombs plot, has sealed the fate of all plans to have free movement without passports withinEU countries for the citizens of those countries. No matter where you go now, if you ar crossing a border, whilst flying, you need a passport.

No, although you can travel between most European countries without a passport, or identity of any kind, the UK does not permit this. Think of the number of immigration officers who would be put out of work if this happened!
