What's the best way to call from Europe to the US?

Whats the best way to travel Europe on a budget?

  • Some friends and I are going backpacking through Europe and are trying find the best way to get around. We are 18,so we are on a budget and we need to find the best and cheapest way to get around from Paris,Berlin,Rome,Athens,London,Amsterda… Dublin (not in that order but these places). PLEASE HELP

  • Answer:

Trains are not the cheapest way at all! It's convenient by train and you can get some good deals if you book well in advance, but budget airlines and coach travel booked at the same time is usually cheaper. Booking last minute then it is always coach travel that is a LOT cheaper. Personally I wouldn't go by coach as the journey is just too long, but it is cheap if that's your main priority. Depending on the route, booking in advance & travelling light (as budget airlines charge for luggage which means heavy packs/suitcases can make a cheap ticket expensive) can make the budget airlines really attractive You can check it out for yourself here <Coach> Here's the link for Eurolines http://www.eurolines.com/ <Flights> This is a good site as you can type in the country rather than city/airport which most sites require, and also search by the month rather than specific dates, plus it gives prices for most (all?) carriers including the budget ones http://www.skyscanner. <Train> http://www.bahn.com/i/view/index.shtml is a good site that gives schedules by rail between most of Europe and between the main ones also gives the prices

Here's a tip: if you book a night train between destinations you can travel and sleep at the same time, saving money on hotels. If you're 18 you should be able to handle it. If I could make a recommendation though, you guys are literally all over the map. Unless you're in Europe for a month or so you're going to spend too much time on the move, rather than taking it in. All worthy destinations, just don't try to do everything at once, and be flexible, you might find you're enjoying yourselves somewhere and want to stay longer. Anyways consider a Euro-rail ticket and take the train as much as you want, book with Ryanair, or other low budget airlines to fly, you could take a ferry from Italy to Greece (I recommend it). Stay in hostels they're cheap and fun - St. Christopher's are to be recommended, regardless of where you are.
