Where should 3 college girls stay in Paris & what should we do?!?

• Myself and two girlfriends are going to Zurich, Paris and Greece next month. We'll be in Paris for a week. We're not necessarily trying to do all the traditional sightseeing, but experience the atmosphere and the nightlife! Any suggestions for things to do for our age group (we're 21)? Also, I've hear that it's better to stay in a hotel rather than hostel in Paris. Ideas for hotels? Also, we won't be getting rail passes- will we be able to travel outside of Paris to small towns with the metro system?
