What is tainted milk?

Why is it no surprise that (Chinese melamine-tainted milk)......?

  • OK, weeks ago when that melamine-tainted milk scandal first rocked China, I wondered what they would do with the rest of the stock of milk the Chinese had in their warehouses. The ideal thing to do was to destroy it. But knowing how corrupt some big businesses are in China (as it is in the rest of the world), I already assumed that most of it were being shipped to poor countries to be sold. So you could imagine my fake surprise when I heard news about how some of that milk got to Philippine drug stores. Has our society become sooo predictably corrupt that even my colleagues, who know know almost nothing about southeast Asia, could see this coming?

It is really no surprise that China have another scandal at hand. The local news kept on saying that these milk and milk products are contaminated with melamine, I beg to disagree. These milk and milk products are not contaminated but Deliberately Adulterated with Melamine, which is a chemical used for lamination of wood, laminated products like plates, counter top surfacing and wood laminates for furniture. They use melamine to adulterate the protein count of the milk that when tested to falsely reflect the subject milk to be of high in protein. China, have greatly dominated the world in terms of manufacturing, almost all if not all products or product components are made in China. Simply because they being the Capitalist & Industrialist want cheaper products to sell for high return. In this new scandal, it is really an outrage because it affects not just Chinese in the Mainland, but almost all citizens of all different nations, who patronized their products, which in these case are parents who with so much love for their babies thought of giving the best milk they could possibly afford, now to have found out that it is what is going to kill their children. If not handicap themselves or their children with kidney failure. China, should enforce and bring down the entire weight of the mighty Dragons claws on to the neck of these malicious, murderous, adulterous, insignificant, ill excuse to called human beings who have possibly thought that Milk should be tampered, modified, tainted, altered to bring down the cost for high profit. Milk and its by-products is a vital component in allot of products; like bread, cheese, creamer, infant formula, chocolate & animal feeds. Undoubtedly, China plays a very vital role in the world society, with it carries a colossal responsibility to the continuance of the human race, if they continue to allow citizens to cheat, modify, adulterate on all products, I wouldn't wonder humans would one day evolve to have gills for breathing.

from the country that uses formalin as food preservative, i am not really surprised by melamine laced milk. for us filipinos, stick to philippine products and buy proudly filipino products.

The Chinese has committed another blunder. The first time was their lead-laden toys. Now, this melamine-tainted milk. And you are absolutely right. It is expected that those banned milk will find its way to poor countries as "donations". If it has reached our shores, I am sure that the importers did not know of its hazardous content for it has only been discovered just recently. I think it is best that we refrain from buying anything Made In China. We can never tell what the next fiasco would be and it could be more deadlier than the milk. And here I thought the Filipinos are the most corrupt...

Hmmm...the ties between China and the Philippines go way back before colonial times and the Chinese have influenced the Philippines in many ways... Anyway, regarding the deliberately melamine-laced milk from China, I am not surprised that they will be distributed to the Phils even without the approval of BFAD and other agencies. There are so many ways either by hook or by crook to get products on the shop shelves and we can't blame the consumers to buy them since they come in cheaper prices. However, as a consumer one should be completely aware of the products he or she is purchasing and make sure that these are safe. Watch your own back... With what has recently happened to Chinese products, I can't help asking why do they put such dangerous chemicals in almost all their products from food to toys to gadgets. Are they set to annihilate the rest of the world? We don't really know... But we are aware that there are some people in their country who would love to gain a lot of profit in the expense of other people...

n the sixty's China let millions starve to death and the world didn't find out until it was done. Mao said it was necessary for population control and started limiting child births. the lead painted toys made and shipped to the world last year was handled by thousands of Chinese workers. Possibly poisoning themselves as well as babies that get the toys. Now chemicals in milk products sold mainly in China ,but also exported. Now suddenly the only milk I can find in Cebu is old and near out of date. No new deliveries. when will the world accept China will never be the neighbor the world wants it to be?

Almost all products in the Philippines are made in China too so it won't be a surprise if there are tainted milk with the brand Yili and Mengniu in the Philippine market. As to how it ended in Phil. markets, idk, word? Smuggling and corruption. How in the system can foreign food/medicines be sold in the Phil. market without BFAD seal and why would someone buy something which is not approved by BFAD? Cheaper than the leading brands? Can't blame buyers if that's their reason but it's a parent's sole responsibility to be aware what his child eats.

After reading your question and the answers, it reminded me of this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mEZu7u4kHqY http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-07/13/content_5434250.htm It left me speechless, but it convinced me to make my own siopao since then. The Chinese have done great contribution to men like porcelaine, gun powder, paper etc. But what brings me way beyond my imagination is that, the Chinese eats everything. Moral and Ethics, please....

no surprise but just deeply sad that they can do this to their own countrymen and they can do this to the rest of the world. there will be a global epidemic if china will continue the unsafe practice of producing their products. it's up for us consumers to protect ourselves.

Business schools, even in China, teach that all is fair in the pursuit of profit. Thats why there has to be strict regulation and oversight on the part of any government to protect us from the profit mongers.
