My toe touches and how can I improve?

How do I improve my toe touches for cheerleading?

  • All cheerleaders, please help me. I've been cheering for 2 years, this is my 2nd year, and its in high school. I love cheering, and it's juss what I do. At tryouts, I did some backhandsprings & had amazing toetouches, but now, when I do them, they absolutely suck, and im so mad at myself. I try streching and stuff everyday and it still doesnt work, they're still really bad, well..atleast i think they are. I need some advice, if you're a cheerleading, tell me what you do to prepare for toetouching. :( it's disappointing, becuz i had an amazing one at tryouts =( and plus, we even practice 2 days a week for almost 3 hours each day, and we do 75 jumps, and i figured that by now they'd improve, but the whole football season, they didnt and they sucked and it was embarassing even doing them & now basketball season is starting and i want to improve & show off and be better at what i do, becuz i love cheerleading :) All your advice is appreciated :) *

The problem people have with toe touches is this: They want to bring their hands to their feet, but their feet are really low which brings their toe touches DOWN. Bring your feet up to your hands, keep your hands up! Also, make sure to keep your back upright and straight as possible. Practice sitting in the toe touch position as much as you can, like while watching TV or doing homework. Practice straddles and leg lifts on the floor, then do some high kicks. Throw your toe touch, count 5-6-7-8, throw another, then repeat. Make sure your legs are together, knees are bent, good posture. Use lot of your leg muscle, that's what gets you off the ground! And again, don't reach for your legs or toes, you should reach your legs to your arms and hands, it keeps you up and makes it easier. Point your toes. Good luck!
