I need help with swim training.

I need help on training for the swim portion of a triathlon?

  • I'll be doing my second "super sprint" tri in mid-September. The swim portion of my first SUCKED. It's only a 400 yard swim, and need some help in developing a 6 week swim training plan. Advice?

    I would recommend over training for the swim; that's only 16 lengths of the pool, so it's really not much. I would recommend training for at least a half mile (36 lengths) swim. Start with what you feel comfortable with. Double that until you reach your target. Instead of a resting break between sets, switch to a length of breaststroke or sidestroke instead. As you add lengths, try to decrease the breast stroke breaks. After you swim your half mile, do a quarter of a mile of kick board. Try to do an open water swim once per week.
