When are the Olympic Swimming Finals?

Opinion Question: Olympic swimming?

  • I LOVE swimming a lot, it's like my life. I started swimming just for fun in the summer without the arm things or anything when I was like 2 1/2 or 3. I was always really good at swimming and loved the water/pool. But the problem is, I'm 12 and I just started competitive swimming 6 1/2 or 7 months ago during the summer. I obviously knew the basics, but not really the advanced stuff I know now. I started off with a summer team this summer and I loved it so much, I'm now on an all-year team and swim year-round. I'm not going to put my times in this question, not because they are bad because they are actually really good (even for someone who isn't a first year swimmer), but because that's not really the point here. But, I have dropped A LOT of time off of all 5 strokes and I compared my all year times to the summer times and I'd place strongly in first in all 5 strokes at my summer team meets. But anyway, my point is, if I keep dropping time like i am now and i working really really REALLY hardI like I am now, do you think I have a chance to be in the olympics and win a gold medal? (P.S. I have been told many times I swim like a 3rd or so year swimmer). (P.P.S. this is just an opinion question, take it seriously, but now TOO seriously). (:

  • Answer:

Seriously ... If I could predict the future I'd go out and buy a lottery ticket. There is absolutely no way that anyone can predict if you'll be one of the top two swimmers in the USA in an event in 2012, 2016, 2020 or 2024. So, as long as you enjoy it, you swim fast and keep working hard, ... KEEP WORKING HARD and see what happens. The main goal is to be healthy and have fun. THAT is not just my opinion, it is reality. Oh, and after fly, back, breast and free there is ??? IM? ... which is not a stroke. So, the fifth stroke is???

Well... It really depends on what your times are. You could be swimming a minute 50 free and be dropping but not enough to be in the olympics. And there are only 4 strokes... so I have no idea what you are talking about with the 5th stroke.
