Is swimming an effective way to lose weight? Will my diet and exercise plan work?

I'm a 20 year old girl, and weigh around 125 pounds (around 15-20 pounds overweight due to my short height of 4'11"). I'd like to slim down before summer, so I was thinking of starting a daily swimming routine and diet. As for my current lifestyle, I don't exercise at all, I never drink water if I can avoid it, and I don't make any effort to eat healthy lol. So...for my diet I plan on eating less and healthy of course (avoiding carbs, eating more veggies and fruits etc), and will start drinking water daily (2 liters I've been recommended), along with daily vitamins. The diet I think I can handle, but what I'm really wondering is if swimming will be an effective way to help me lose weight further and tone up my body? I plan on swimming (mostly freestyle, but breast stroke and back too) almost daily for an hour. Will that work? I'm worried I'll put a lot of effort towards this for nothing. I've heard a few times that swimming isn't any good for weight loss because calories are harder to burn. Opinions and tips please? =)

sounds good to me. swimming is good for you, because puts less stress on body then running. go for it swimmers have fantastic bodies

If you work out hard enough, your metabolism should get high enough that you really don't need to go on a diet too. I would talk to a swim coach or swimmer and ask them to give you a sample work out. If you want a workout, I can totally give you one.

im in high school and i was the chubby kid and i decided to play water polo the sport killed me i lost so much Weight and have done swim also its great way to lose Weight you will feel so much better about you're self definitely take it and if possible play water its hard but when you get used to it, its very fun
