Good workout routine for field hockey player?

  • What is a good workout routine (specific exercises) for a high school field hockey player during the off-season?

  • Answer:

Of course it all depends on your position on the field. Distance running is a must. I would say being able to run 2 miles in thirty minutes and not running out of breath is a good sign. Run with your mouthgaurd in as well, because that's how you'll be breathing in the game. "liners" or "suicides" are good for sprinting exercises. Keeping your stick skills in shape is important. In your yard, or a park or something practice running with a ball. Get one of your team mates to practice passing with you. Make sure you're moving around while you pass, game-like situations. Practice evading imaginary defenders as well. Make sure you're stretching and hydrating, because getting injured in the off season means possibly not playing in season! Good Luck with your training, hope I was helpful. If you need specific drills or more ideas shoot me an email at [email protected]
