How are golf slope ratings figured?

What is the difference between Fairway/Look and Rough/Look when reading ratings for golf clubs?

  • I was looking at a buying some Irons and was looking at some reviews online and in the catagories they had Look??? Look/Fairway, Look/Rough, and Look/Chip. What are they rating. Here is a link to the page http://www.golf.com/golf/gallery/article/0,28242,1604637-9,00.html

  • Answer:

Many people consider the "look" when selecting new clubs. Some clubs set up differently than others (more open or closed at address) and this can change a players attitude towards the clubs in general. If you don't like the way the clubs set up to the ball, you may hit them badly since confidence is very important in making a golf swing. As far as the Fairway-Rough-Chip thing, they're just talking about how they look in those particular situations. Notice that they generally have similar ratings for all situations, so it's not that big a deal. Keep in mind that this type of club rating is very subjective. Just because the people that did the survey did or did not like them does not mean you will share their opinion. The best way to pick out new clubs is to go to the store and try out everything you can.
