Can you change from a standard headset to a integrated headset?

Can i use an integrated headset with an 07 Spec epic?

  • i have a cane creek S1 headset with traditional cups and ball bearings on it now. can i use an integrated headset with sealed cartridge bearings? (where the bearings go inside the head tube)

  • Answer:

No you can't. I work at a specialized dealer and know for a fact that the frames accept external headsets only. -n8 the gr8

No, sadly not. The frame just isn't designed to cope with the larger diameter of an integrated headset. If you want a sealed headset that'll last a long time and run great with little (although ALL headsets need some maintenance) then consider getting a Chris King nothreadset, A Hope Technology ('08 model) or a Cane Creek S2. All of these will serve you well regardless of where you are likely to be riding. If you do get any of these fitted it's well worth getting your headtube faced by your local bike shop (unless you have the tool yourself). If you start with everything squared and properly faced you'll get years and years from your new headset.
