Where to buy a cheap Bike in Stockholm?

Should I buy my bike from a local bike shop or from local REI shop? details inside?

  • I found a nice looking bike at REI but I found nice bikes at my local bike shop too. I would say that the bike from REI would be equal to or better than the bikes at the local bike shop. The bike at REI would likely be cheaper. When I went to my local bike shop they told me that if I buy a bike from them than it gets serviced for free for 2-years. So, I guess if I have any issues than I can get them to do the adjustments. I'm pretty good at doing mechanical work myself so I'm not sure if I'd really need them. Maybe make adjustments when I first buy the bike but I wouldn't see myself finding it absolutely necessary to have them service my bike every now and then. I probably wouldn't bring it in unless there's a problem. Does REI offer anything similar in terms of servicing my bike? Will they make the adjustments I need when I'm buying the bike? The local bike shop told me that their service fee is expensive like $60 so it makes sense to buy from them for the free service. Would it be more worth it to buy a bike from them or get the better deal from REI? I could also get a FUJI from another local bike shop for a bit of a better price but not sure if he offers a free service and not sure if the bike would be as good. What do you all think? thanks a lot

I got news for ya... R.E.I. is a REAL bicycle shop. If the shop near you is as good as the one near me - you have no worries. Furthermore...R.E.I. does offer one FREE after the sale check-up/tune-up just as other bike shops do. R.E.I. charges about $60 for a tune-up after the bike is out of the warranty period. By that time, you'll most likely know how to do minor adjustments on the bike by yourself. Last thought... By joining R.E.I. ($20 initial cost for life) you get 10% back of all your purchases. Example...if the bike cost $500. You will get $50 back. I think they send out checks around the 1st of March or shortly after. Ask at the store. Link below.

Well I've never been to an REI store but I am a big fan of supporting your local bike shop. Most shops will offer free adjustments and repairs to the bike IF you buy it from them. Personally, I'd go with the 2 year deal. You should be able to get the yearly overhaul for free as well. At least for the first 2 yrs. Good luck!

old hippie is right they ARE real bike shops, REI, and good ones you are lucky to have one, they aren;t in every city i doubt you can get the same bike from REI and a nearby bike shop usually they don;t carry the same brands i don;t think REI has any special free services i could be wrong though they may have a 1 time tune up after break in just not every year or 6 months forever.. but the adjustments the shop is talking about, are very minor you will not be getting any really valuable service for free this is just cable adjustments after a break in period they are not going to be doing heavy service or giving free parts, for sure this is the kind of service you could do yourself in 10 minutes if you knew how it;s just turning screws and adjusters i;d get the bike you want, where ever it is cheapest wle
