Federal Income Tax was started to fund the Civil War and was supposed to be discontinued after the war ended. But as usual, once the government gets a hand in your pocket they won't let go. The IRS was formed a few years later instead. I don't know if there is a written law. The IRS is an illegal force as far as I am concerned, but has way too much power now. They are the only department in the government that says guilty until proven innocent. Did you know that legally you do not have to sign your tax return? When you sign it, you are giving up your protection under the fifth ammendment.

Sure thing, the tax laws are found in Title 26 of the U.S. Code. You can read them at http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/26/ or at http://uscode.house.gov/download/title_26.shtml The sections that apply to most people are 1, 61, 62, 63, 3402, 6001, 6011, 6012, 6151 and several others. Explanations can be found at http://docs.law.gwu.edu/facweb/jsiegel/Personal/taxes/JustNoLaw.htm http://www.hereisthelaw.com I do not have to find you a definition of income. The meaning of income is the common definition of the term. It does not have to be defined within the tax laws. Also, 'income' is not just the gains and profits of a corporation. See, I knew where you were going because I have heard all these tax protester nonsense arguments before. The current income tax laws are Constitutional, legal, and apply to the compensation that you receive from an employer. The courts have consistently ruled the income tax is Constitutional. Arguments to the contrary are frivolous. Now, are you going to accept an answer that actually answers your question or are you waiting for an answer that reinforces your delusions?

The 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

The Sixteenth Amendment just allows Congress to pass an income tax; the Internal Revenue Code, Title 26 of the US Code, is the law that actually establishes it.

Article XVI of the US Constitution which was passed in 1913 allows the government to levy and collect taxes, and if it is in the constitution it is the law.

According to the Treasury Dept, head of the IRS, you don't.
