How much cost for each chg (electricity)? How much did you pay for the electric car? Please specify if your answer is for an electric car or a hybrid? If you have a hybrid what is your gas mileage?

  • Answer:

Yes, I have two. A very old electric car (a 1981 Jet Electra Van) and a new Chevy Volt. The Volt is a plug-in hybrid. It's a pure electric car for the first 25-50 miles, then it's a hybrid car running from gasoline. * I have an off-peak rate from my electric company, that gets me a lower electric rate for charging overnight. This is a very good thing to get if you have an electric car. My overnight rate is 7 cents per kilowatt-hour. * Both my cars can drive between 3 and 3.5 miles per KWH. That makes my cost-per-mile around 2 cents. A full charge, for me, is less than one dollar. * the Volt has a very short electric range because it also can run on gasoline. Most other electric cars for sale advertise a range close to 100 miles, though this number will vary depending on speed and weather. So far, Tesla is the only electric car maker with models that can drive 200-300 miles on a charge. The extra range means bigger battery packs, and higher purchase prices. * You can certainly spend a lot on an electric car. Tesla has models that sell for over $100,000. The least expensive EV from a major automaker is the Mitsubishi MiEV, which is around $21,000 after rebates. * But it is possible to get an EV very cheaply. My old electric car came from eBay, where I won it for a bid of just $2000. In fact, here's a whole page of used electric cars - some available for very little money: http://www.evtradinpost.com/ * Believe it or not, even the Volt is not expensive if you get it the right way. It can be leased for just $349. The lease price can be seen here on Chevy's page: * http://www.chevrolet.com/volt-electric-car/ * Next, consider that a typical driver can save between $100-$200 per month on fueling cost by driving Volt on electric miles. That makes the lease price very, very cheap compared to a conventional car.

Are you retarded? Do you think all cars electric, hybrid of steam powered are the same? You ask "How much does it cost to charge an electric car?" or "How many miles can you drive before re-charging?" Think a little before asking stupid questions. Do you think all electric cars in the market are the same? Do you think everyone that drives one drives the same? on the same roads?

The Bridge Dweller

remember any mileage awnser from the manufacturer is based on no passengers and no items in hte car and the driver weighs 125lbs. Elecrtic cars are very sensitive to weight so forget loading up the family and going anywhere other than the end of the street.
