  • Does anyone have a jurnalist contact in the BBC who can help? My Dubai Hell... Briefly I have been in Dubai for 2 years now, I left a job I loved in the UK to Join M.H Alshsya a Kuwait based Retail Company who franchises British fashion brands in the Middle East. At the time i felt this was the right move to develop my career and gain some life experience, I was recruited as the Store Manager for Debenhams I have always been very ambitious, I worked very hard for them opening a new store and revamping an old one. As time passed within the company I had noticed a lot of British managers had been disappearing due to costs as in the UAE you get paid by your nationality and British were the highest while other nationalities are expected to survive in less than 10% of what I was paid, not to mention the poor living conditions (labour camps). When I was interviewed the company made great effort to glamorise my visit here by staying in great hotels and being wined and dined, they seceded but knowing what I know now and what I have experienced I would never had come. M.H alshaya (Debenhams) managed to find reason to terminate my contract leaving me with an apartment and debt I couldn’t afford to pay back, when opened my first account here I was forced to take out a credit card as at the time my bank didn’t’ offer debit cards but a credit card instead, the debt mounted because of the extremely high set up costs here to a new expat. I had the best intention to find a new job so I was clear of debt which was always the intention, my intention was to save money due to it being tax free here. I had accepted my fait although it was unfair and I was never allowed to see evidence and pushed into signing documents that were falsified even with witnesses. It’s hard to fight a case in Dubai as there are no laws to protect the employees. I handed over my passport to their government department who would cancel my residency visa, they had my passport for 2 months and by this point I had missed 3 payments on my card and to make matters worse UAE immigration informed my banks I was trying to leave which I wasn’t and had put police cases and travel bans against me stopping me from leaving anyway M.H alshaya then got back to me another month later explaining that I was blacklisted and my visa could not be cancelled to due owing the banks money. I was given a period to pay the money which I couldn’t so they handed my passport to immigration and now I’m banned from working here which means I am un able to work to pay back the money or leave the country, as my family are unable to raise the money to get me home I have to stay here without or home money to live on until its paid while avoiding the police so I’m not caught and imprisoned until its paid.. the longer I stay in Dubai the more I get charge roughly about (£25 a day) for not having a visa I can’t win and I can’t survive and I can’t go home to my family who are sick with worry. All I have is my laptop and my suitcase sitting outside people’s homes trying to get a wireless internet connection to find ways out of Dubai.. I want to warn people about the world of Dubai as it’s not what it seems and it’s very scary I’m 26 years old now and I can’t help worrying how old I will be when I leave if I ever leave, I can’t keep hiding from the police and I can’t keep feeling like a criminal. If im cought I will be pt in jail until the funds are raised, I've been in this situation for 7 months now and I just want to come home but I know that’s just a dream......
