How do I stop bad thoughts caused by OCD?

I've had OCD for a logn time, & I rarely get bad thoughts caused by it. But now they've come & my boyfriends on holiday at the moment, he's been gone for like 2 weeks. I love my boyfriend, but I'm staretd to get bad thoughts that I' going off himw hich is ridiculous because I knwo I love my boyfriend. These thoughts keep coming back constantly & they upset me so much & make me feel ill. I was wondering if there was away to conquer them? I really need help with this. thanks x

It helps me to think of the worst case scenario, and then plan what I would do in that case. For example: On Friday my boss tells me I did something wrong at work. Normally I would worry all weekend that I was going to get fired on Monday, and blow the whole thing out of proportion. Then I would start to think how much I dislike my job, etc. But instead of doing that, I should think "What is the worst thing that can happen? I get fired. What will I do if I get fired? I will go straight to the Temp Agency and apply for temp work while I find a new job". That way I will quit worrying about it, because I'm prepared for the worst. I also remind myself that I am just exaggerating the situation in my own mind. I am a good employee, and my boss isn't really going to fire me. In your case, is it possible that you are having bad thoughts about your boyfriend, because you are really worried that he will break up with you? If so, then you should plan what you will do if he does, and then quit worrying about it. Besides, you know your fears have no basis, so remind yourself of that. Then put on a big smile, do something nice for yourself, and remind yourself that you are a wonderful person!

Allow yourself to have your thoughts. It might not be your OCD. It might be your unconscious trying to tell you something. Just consider and think through what you are thinking and feeling, then decide what you want. This time away from your boyfriend allows you to reflect on your relationship.

I have OCD, & when I get bad thoughts like that, I try convincing myself that it's not gonna happen, but sometimes even then I'm too scared to not do my "ritual", if you will. I'm not like a severe case, but sometimes I do have those thoughts. I would just roll with your rituals until your boyfriend comes home. Your just gonna be even more stressed if you don't do them. Or if you can seek help through therapy, or try talking to a friend about it. Try doing things to preoccupy yourself while he's gone!! Goodluck girl
