Why are my citrus trees dying?

Why are my cedar trees dying out in the middle but have new growth on the ends?

  • My cedar tress that I have had for 10 years that I have pruned to look like hedges are totally dead in the middle but on the very ends have green ends its like the tree has the mange why are they doing this????

  • Answer:

I am quite sure Cedars are the same as other evergreen shrubs in this regard. The problem is, they are not getting enough sun on the inside near the trunk. If you prune it so there are spaces and cut some of the branches all the way back to a major inside branch, it will give a more natural look and the sun will get into the plant to create new growth. When you prune just on the outside edges the plants new growth starts from that point and continues to make a thicker barrier blocking the sun even more, thus making the plant die away on the inside. It seems dramatic at first but new grow doesn't take long to start growing on the inside when it has some light. Always reach in when you prune to create openings for the sun.
