How to take good care Of Areca palm trees.? Read the details please?
-
It started to dry a bit. We watered it every week but every branches was gradually starting to dry. Some didn't dry at all some did pretty quickly. Today I cut down all the leaves that were dry or semi dry to avoid the driness to get worse. All that there is now is green leaves and branches. There some caterpillars and some really small white things are in the soil; could they be causing the driness? How should take care of it? How often should I water it. I put in my room to get better. But seems like there is not much difference

Answer:
If you have caterpillars.....some other creature in the soil, they might be feeding on the roots. I don't know the size of your plant. If it is smaller you could wash all the soil from the plant and repot. Hopefully washing away the creatures. But I suspect you have a larger size plant........if you can fit it to a sink, make up a solution of soapy water.......like to wash dishes.......and pour it into the soil, saturating the entire root ball. Let sit 15 minutes then rinse it out. Repeat every other day for about two weeks. Soap is deadly to soft bodied insects which your caterpillar like things are surely. However it is very difficult to get the entire root mass wet with the soap so may not get them all. Also those little balls were actually eggs? HOLD ON.......if your little caterpillars look like little black dragons with red spots, those are baby ladybugs and are considered good guy. If you plant has aphids, the white things could be shed skin from the aphids or parasitized insect eggs and will cause you no harm. Truly it is hard enough to diagnose when we can see the plant, very difficult when we can't.

I'm not familiar with Arecas but they're tropical plants so they should be in the right temperature. If you want optimal conditions for them make sure the environment is suitable. Always give it plenty of indirect and mild sunlight and mist whenever you can. Give it a constant feed of water but make sure you don't drench it. I'm pretty sure what's causing the dryness is the fact that you've allowed its soil to dry out, which pretty much dehydrates the plant. Eventually, the plant will adapt itself to its resources and either grow or whittle in size I think. Make sure you take out parts that are dead or for sure going to die so that it doesn't drain the remainder of the body. The Areca is an indoor plants so i don't know why there are caterpillars in your pot but you should probably remove them.
