How to clean the tile and grout?

How can I clean my grout in my tile?

  • My tile is white as is the grout...the grout is yellowed from cigarette smoke...we have just remodeled our whole inside of our house and have stopped smoking inside...but now I need to know how to get my grout back to white.

    I have a tiled bath area and I also smoke (so did the renter before me) and the grout was tan from all the nicotine & hard water stains when I moved in. I used The Works (in a spray bottle), I sprayed the whole enclosure and let it set for 5min.(any longer than that and the stuff dries) and scrubbed with a toothbrush. Then I rinsed the area with warm water and sprayed with bleach and got out of the room! The bleach stinks and makes you cough, but I scrammed and came back 10 min. later. I turned on the ceiling fan to exhaust the bleach smell (you can use a regular fan too, to get the air circulating), and rinsed and brushed the grout again. It came out looking fantastic. I did have two small places that I had to place grout on, but I think cleaning is easier than re-grouting the whole thing.

Home Depot has a product called "ZEP" just for grout. It is located with all the cleaning supplies. I just recently used it and it is awsome. Good Luck

re-grout it. try bleaching it. goto home depot or lowes and ask someone there.

Try bleach and a stiff brush or toothbrush, or one of the new "eraser pads" by Mr. Clean or others. If that fails, you can re-grout with a fresh white. It's not too hard to do.

I use a mix of house hold bleach and water, spray on to grout and then use an old toothbrush to scrub it, works a treat

You can either scrub with tooth brush, use a steam cleaner or the easiest might be to re-grout. Just grout the same way you would from scratch and the yellow will be covered up/.

don't use bleach, use vinegar and water mixed let sit for 10 min.

they sell this really great product that doesn't clean, it like paints them white.it is made for this purpose. it comes in a little bottle with sponge tip applicator. you just run it over all the grout(some will get on the tiles, but comes off very easy with razor blade, like when you paint window frame and have to scrape paint off the glass) i believe you can get it at wal-mart or lowes. i can't remember what it is called. my grown daughter let me use her bottle. it was so nice to see fresh white grout in my white tiles.

Use Zep and than get some grout sealer it come in a small tube cut the tip and follow the grout. Than never again will you have the problem.
