How to clean the tile and grout?

How to clean floor tile grout?

  • I have a sand color grout between my floor tile. My home is now 2 1/2 years old. In the kitchen area a lot of the floor has started turning a darker brown color. I have tried grout cleaner, with no luck. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

Bleach and water...squirt or pour the solution onto the grout, scrub with a toothbrush. Make sure the area is well ventilated, and wear rubber or latex gloves.

I have found that magic eraser has worked really well, but its a hand to floor job, and you will use many erasers with a large area. My teens like the project for extra money, and it saves my knees.

I spray bleach which I mix with water in a spray bottle (I don't measure); let sit for 5-10 minutes then I get down on my knees and scrub each grout line with a toothbrush. It works really well. The easier way is to buy a bigger brush that will screw on to your broom stick and scrub away. Wish they made floors with no grout lines.

I feel your pain..i went through this with my bathroom floor last year... the only thing that helped at all was a steamer and it didnt get it as clean as I wanted. What I did was go to home depot and buy grout dye and redied my grout then made sure to seal it well..... I can not stress the importence of the sealing enough either... if you dont seal the grout (which it sounds like was not done) then you will keep having this problem as long as you own your home.

May I suggest Tilex cleaner. It is a great way to beat stubborn stains within the tiles and the grout.

Hi! I have found using diluted bleach in the grouting. Leave it for 30 minutes and then clean with a toothbrush. Make sure pets and children aren't around an it is worthwhile airing the area when you use the bleach. Good luck!

Shy of tearing up and replacing, grout cleaner is the best. You may want to try Mariettic Acid (not sure if that is spelled right) They use is to clean brick, but it may or may not damage the tiles. You will need to ask an expert. Off hand, I would say try a better grout cleaner....

I had the same problem. My mom's cleaning lady gave me this tip. Use a degreaser you can buy in the supermarket. It usually comes in a black spray bottle. Just spray it on and let it sit like 5 mins. Then scrub it with a brush and then mop the floor as usual. Works every time.
