What exactly is nausea?

Is it normal to experience nausea due to anxiety and worries..? Does what you hold emotionally trigger nausea?

  • i sort of have an anxiety disorder but havent been diagnosed yet...But my problem is, is that I have always been paranoid, and have had phobias, such as of cancer and diseases and stuff like that, plus pessemistic with things such as relationships with friends, gfs, etc....I noticed recently that I occasioanlly get this kind of nausea, which never leads to throwing up, and doesnt last too long, and goes away with breathing excercises...The thing is, is that sometimes it comes to me out of nowhere, and then I start thinking of things, and its like that nauseous feeling in your stomach that is lie a mixture of beeing dizzy and worried...Idk, cause i dont throw up, and it goes away once i fall asleep...I was wondering if this is common in people who have anxiety problems such as myself.....thanks

  • Answer:

Yes, it happens. I remember every time before exams I always felt worried and... my stomach would turn upside down. Didn't you notice, though, after you relax, the bad feeling goes away on its own? Focus on positive emotions and everything positive, like good books, enriching movies, wholesome foods, walks on the beach (or parks), breathing fresh air, swimming, petting a dog(or cat), falling in love..., praying, I can go on and on, it is for you to continue the list and to pick whatever is suitable for you.

I have all the symptoms you talk about I am taking medication for anxiety But I only get nausea 2or 3 times a year it always from food and milk which have gone off .Breathing doesn't help me then so once a year I get pills from the doctor called stemizine to keep on hand because I live far from a doctor .You may suffer some allergy which affects your sinuses the sinus tries to clear this by dropping the flem from the nose down to your stomach which then makes you feel sick for a short time of course from the stomach it passes through your bowels with no affect normally but in severe cases gives you diarrhea. As far as phobias go such as cancer and diseases try to read some books on having a positive mental attitude these are available at most libraries.Stress and worry has been proven to cause some things like cancer feeling unwell etc.Of course they say cancer is caused most by smoking that seems to be true.My own personal opinion is that it is the belief that you are going to get it is the greatest cause .This is the same with most diseases the bodies immune system cant beat because your mind doesn't believe it ,.So please try get the books and read about PMA "Positive Mental Attitude".Hope this helps goodluck from john.

I know stress and anxiety can cause an upset stomach, and I'm sure some people are more sensitive than others. Stress can lead to ulcers, too! I suggest you see a psychiatrist for help woth your anxiety, and possibly a physician for your stomach. You're assuming what the problem is, and left untreated, it could lead to something more serious. I hope you get better!

Yes, my worst anxiety does cause nausea and sometimes vomiting. I have to take klonopin when I start feeling the nausea coming on... Otherwise, I take Xanax to help with anxiety on a daily basis.
