How do you get your sleep routine back on track?

How can I get my sleep schedule back on track?

  • I've gotten in the habit of going to bed between 2 and 4 am, and I keep sleeping through my 9 am lecture... However, I can't seem to fall asleep before 2, even if I didn't get any sleep the night before.

  • Answer:

I have heard of something called "owl syndrome" in which a person is literally unable to fall asleep before 2 or 3 in the morning. However, if this is a recent pattern, you may want to start forcing yourself to get up around 8 am every morning and get at least an hour of exercise (preferably cardio) everyday. Make sure you do not exercise too late or it may impede your sleep. Also, do not drink caffeine after 5 pm and do not take vitamins or any sort of stimulant drug after 5 pm. Vitamins can impede sleep, believe it or not. Finally, start going to bed around 10/11 pm, even if you are not tired. Eventually your body should catch on. =)
