How to dilute tea tree oil?
-
to use tea tree oil for clearing up whiteheads (and also in healing popped whiteheads) should you dilute the tea tree oil first, and if so with what and what's the best ratio? I've heard about 'carrier oils' being the best way to dilute and aid in tea tree oil's effectiveness, but I know relatively little about carrier oils. Also, I have combination-to-oily skin, which is very sensitive, and my whiteheads/blemishes are all around my chin, jawline, and mouth. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:
Using Tea Tree Essential oil it has great on acne as it has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Simply put a couple of drops on a cotton bud and dot onto each spot. Don't use it over your entire face as it can irritate the skin for some people. It is much better to use it in dilution for larger areas, I would recommend between 10-20 drops of essential oil to 50ml of carrier oil such as jojoba oil. I recommend Jojoba Oils (as the carrier oil) as it is particularly good for skincare. It penetrates into the skin and does not clog pores. It can be used on all skin types. It contains vitamin E and antioxidants which are great for fighting aging signs and moisturizing the skin. In addition it is also antibacterial making it great for treating acne breakouts. As well Tea tree you may find Lavender Essential oil useful for whiteheads\pimples, as it has antifungal and antiseptic properties and is widely used in treating acne. For that stubborn pimples lavender can be applied neat using a cotton bud or pad. Redness, swelling and irritation will be dramatically reduced. Again use in dilution for larger areas, dilute as with Tea Tree Oil, 10-20 drops of essential oil to 50ml of carrier oil such as jojoba oil. Hope this helps!

Don't wash with tea tree regularly if your skin's sensitive. Tea Tree oil is powerful stuff. Put neat tea tree onto burst whiteheads with a cotton bud (yes, it does sting) and put 2-3 drops of tea tree oil onto a wet cotton fluffball to cleanse your face. Keep it WELL away from your eyes! Don't be putting tea tree oil in more oil, that's daft, you'll just have an oily face! I advise getting hold of Witch Hazel cleanser for every day use and save the tea tree for emergencies, or once a month / fortnight. Be aware, that using tea tree oil (even diluted on the cotton fluffball) actually dries your skin out so have a light moisturiser to hand (Witch Hazel do one of those too) for use afterwards. PS:- no I don't work for Witch Hazel lol, I just trust the brand :) Hope this helps!

To use as a cleaning agent, mix 1 tsp. tea tree oil with 1/4 cup vinegar and 2 cups water. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt in after the other ingredients have been mixed. To use as an antiseptic, mix 4 oz. witch hazel with one tsp. tea tree oil. You can also use tea tree oil undiluted as an antiseptic.
