My daughter can't swallow pills. The doctor prescribed her minocycline capsules for her acne.?

Don't break open the capsules. They have a coating on them to help dissolve correctly in the stomach. Try having her fill her mouth with water and then "slip" the pill through her lips and swallow. If she can't learn to swallow them Minocycline does come in a liquid form. Just call the doctor and ask him to switch to that form.

NO...do NOT break the capsules...the product is in a capsule for a reason...if she's old enough to have acne, then she's old enough to swallow a pill...(maybe you both need to grow up.)

My sister-in-law is 4 and she can't swallow pills either. So I broke the capsules open and put them in a bowl of Mandarin oranges and mixed them up. Try doing something along those lines.

I really feel bad for her since I couldn't swallow pills until a few months ago I saw other answers saying don't break it, and with most pills you aren't supposed to so don't do that But try putting the pill in a thing of apple sauce of jello, and let her know its in there of course but tell her to not look at the spoon and eat it quickly, because that worked for me and after a while I could swallow them like a normal person, since I had to take them daily, and I guess thats a daily thing too, so practice makes perfect, even with pills :)

break the pill & use cookie dough (anything smooth and without anything in it, IE NOT chocolate chip) Flatten a small disk of dough, pour the powder in and fold it over like a quesadilla She'll be able to swallow it pretty quickly without much aftertaste and without getting any stuck in her teeth

The package will tell you if you can break them open (but I doubt it). What kind of a doctor prescribes capsules for a person who can't swallow. The fact is.. if she wants her acne cleared up bad enough she can learn to swallow a pill. My son had cerebral palsy and he learned to do it. (secret was, drink some water, put the pill on the back of the tongue and drink lots and lots of water until the darn thing goes down). Good Luck

haha i take that too. but i dont think you should break it open, cause the powder looks gross, i accidentaly cracked one open today and it was repulsing to me. but anyhow, just make sure she has a FULL glass of water and then she should put the pill on her tongue and then take a BIG gulp and swallow fast. then take another drink right after. i dont know if this helped, but i hope so! good luck!

She has to give it a try. I was like this when i was younger i use to gag. But was giving capsules one time and eventually with a little persuasion from my mum got over it. Just sit down and talk her through it, capsules just slide down easily enough you have to encourage her.

Its usually a bad idea to break open pills. Just stick the pill in her mouth and give her a glass of water and make her keep swallowing until its down. She is going to have to get over it one day, might as well start now.
