What does blood in the stool mean?

  • I've had blood in my stool for about 3 weeks and it's starting to really worry me. Stools are normally formed, no mucous. There's no pain, no itching. Blood is bright red, and typically only aligns to one side of the stool. I have noticed clotted blood as well, both on the stools and on the paper. I've been self-treating with hemorrhoid cream, thinking of internal hemorrhoids, but again, there's no itching, and it's not resolving. What worries me is that it's 3 weeks. I plan to see a doctor, but I'm worried. Could it be just hemorrhoids? Or could it be something worse?

  • Answer:

Could be hemorrhoids. Stomach ulcer also comes to mind. And this can also be a symptom of more serious conditions. Do see your doctor.

In the VAST majority of cases when there is blood in the stool, especially bright red blood, it's hemorrhoids. So don't worry too much. But definitely go and get it checked out, as blood in the stool is also a symptom of things like colon cancer or colon polyps.

The bleeding may be an indication of a minor problem, such as hemorrhoids, or something more serious. No one can diagnose you through a computer. See your doctor.

Could still be the roids, if there is any pain its the roids, would still see a dr in case self medicating isn't enough
