Is it normal for my heart to skip a beat?

  • This happens whenever I exercise enough to get my heart beating fast. When i do this, in some situations my heart will skip a beat. Maybe an hour ago, i was exercising a bit, and held my hand on my heart to feel the beats, since i had noticed this issue prior to today. What happened was that my heart would beat normally for 3 - 5 beats (usually 4), and then skip a beat twice. So if a '1' was to represent a normal beat, and a '0' was to represent a skip, then the pattern would be something like: 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 0 and so on. this would keep going until my heart went back to its normal beats, which would be a few minutes or so. I am 13 years old, about 5"8 and weigh 115 pounds,.. is this normal, and what else should i know about this? Thanks.

    The skipping of beats you have is in a pattern, so you are fine. If your heart beat was like this: 11110111110110100101011111111101110110… Then I would see a doctor. The thing is, exercise, excitement, shock, stress, are all things that make your heart skip a beat. And since yours is in a pattern and it returns normal at rest, you are definately fine. :)
