Serious question about diabetes?

Diabetes question....PLEASE ANSWER!!!?

  • How much high does your blood sugar need to be to get diabetes? Mine is really high right now. 98 is supposed to be the max and mine is 101. I don't think I have diabetes right now because the doctors didn't say anything. Do I have diabetes? how can I make it lower and how much high does it need to be in order to get diabetes? Please answer! I don't want diabetes!!!!

  • Answer:

A fasting reading has to be equal to or over 126 mg/dl in order to qualify as diabetic. It has to be 110 mg/dl to qualify as pre-diabetic. A post prandal ( 2 hours after a meal ) reading has to be equal to or over 200 mg/dl to qualify as diabetic. A post prandal has to be equal to or over 140 mg/dl to be considered pre-diabetic. You can eat smaller more frequent meals and lower glycemic index foods. This has the effect of spreading out the glucose more. It's like if you can't lift a 100 lb box up the stairs, you divide it into two 50 lb boxes and make two trips. Exercise also helps burn glucose and as fat contributes to insulin resistance, losing weight if you're overweight helps a lot.
