How to get rid of my fruit allergies?

Child allergies.....?

  • Alright, we all know to keep kids away from certain things till they are older. Well, unknown to me at the time, I was under the impression that ALL foods were safe when kids turned a year old so we gave my 14 month old daughter peanut butter which possibly caused rosy cheeks. Took her to the doctor the next day to talk to him about it and he said it could have been PB or just seasonal allergies so he told me to just stay away from all foods that could possibly be allergies for her...... wheat, soy, peanut, tree nuts, eggs and fish. He actually told me to really keep her away from pb, tree nuts, soy and fish. I guess wheat and milk and eggs is minor. Well, here is my question...... what about soybean oil or soy oil??? Soybean or soy oil is found in EVERYTHING and I am having a heck of a time trying to find stuff to eat for her untill we can get her officially tested for allergies. She is eating fruit, veggies and hotdogs cause I do not know what else to give her!!!

The poor little thing, allergies suck but are worse for toddlers. I hope you have date for her to see an allergist, sooner rather than later. In the mean time Sue Dengate has fantastic book called "The Failsafe Cookbook", which has taken the guess work out of what to feed children & adults with allergies. The book is supposed to be now available in UK & USA. I have been usuing her diet for about the last 4 months, which has helped immensely. The web site below has a 28 page downloadable booklet, with heaps of foods, etc, the web site also has email support, and a whole lot of other information. Hope this helps and good luck. Some more infor about Sue, she is a former teacher, & psychology graduate, and became interested in the eggects of foods additives etc, after the birth of first child. Sue and her husband a food scientist, both run The Food Intolerance Network www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info Which provides information about the effects of foods, inregaurds to behaviour, health and learning abilities etc in children and adults.

until you can get her tested it is best to avoid all soy products including the oil. The easiest way to do this is to cook from scratch and use frozen not canned vegetables. By the way health wise chicken or ground beef would be better than hot dogs. Hot dogs have a lot of preservatives and additives that can cause allergic reactions too. If you want to see what she is allergic to food wise then give her one of the suspect foods and watch her for any skin rashes. Also watch for an increase in mucus production and if she gets diarhea. If any of these or a difficult breathing occurs then it is likely she is allergic. Make a list and let the doctor know what the reaction to each one was. Test one food a week so that her body has a chance to get rid of any of the tried food from her system before a new one is introduced. If a reaction seems severe give benadryl and call the doctor. I know its hard to kind foods until testing is done but with practice it can be done.

hot dogs are really really bad! There are thingsi n there that not only will contribute to developping allergies but cause brain problems and other health issues. Try mac and cheese (you can get rice noodles- no wheat) mix in some frozen peas and a can of tuna- you can add cheese if you like . You can get some tortillas (may daughter is allergic to wheat and corn so I buy rice tortilla wraps- they are very good) and make a tuna, turkey, or chicken and cheese wrap. Make what I call a 'hash' brown some ground beef, cube some potatoes and add that. I like to saute onions and garlic and throw that in with some sliced carrots. I will also shred resh spinach and slice some mushrooms to toss in it- cook until the potatoes are tender- you can add or leave out vegetables according to your taste. My daughter is allergic to just about every form of corn but has not had a problem with corn oil. I have a friend whose daughter is severely allergic to peanuts but has never had a problem with things friend in peanut oil. I am sure there are other cases that are different. If she is not allergic to these things- the oil is not going to cause an allergy and I would not worry too much about it. If she is allergic then I would be sure to avoid these things as much as possible. You should try to cook more from scratch- it was at first a little intimidating for me as I was never a whiz in the kitchen , but fresh fruits and veggies are much better than canned and cooking from scratch puts you in control over what goes into oyur childs body. don't be afraid to experiment- the internet is full of sites with wonderful recipes and tips about what to substitute in place of the common allergens.

My son has allergies, way more than your girl. If she is getting a rash still, it is not from outside allergies its food. It should clear up if you take the food away, if not then she is still eating something she shouldn't be. A fresh rash is bright red a clearing up rash is more skin coloured. Yes soy oil is a no no. Use other oils. Pre-packaged food is not good anyway. Cut out the fruit as a test to see because it is known to cause rashes in kids even without allergies it is harsh on sensitive skin. She needs rice, rice is hypoallergenic. Erewhan organic krispy rice cereal has no gluten my son loves them. Rice pasta is great and tasty. There are rice cakes made by nestle for toddlers that are bite size. Use rice flour to make home made foods, breading meats, making breads, there are egg, and cornstarch (baking powder) substitutes on the net. There are other gluten free grains like amaranth and quinou but are less tasty than rice. Rice even makes an oil (Rice bran oil) very good but expensive. Also brown rice syrup is sweet and good for you it has minerals other sugars don't. Try it on or in your recipies instead of sugar give it with pancakes instead of maple or corn syrup (aunt jemima) because they could cause allergic reactions too. Eggs are a no no, milk is not a common allergy more intolerance. Wheat is not good for the body, (known to cause crohns disease).
