Am I anorexic? How do I gain weight?
-
I am 14 years old, I am 5' 2" and I weigh 74 lbs. People at school ask me if I am anorexic and always comment on how thin I am and I am SICK of it. I am well aware that people with anorexia are constantly watching their weight and actually trying to become thinner, but that's not me. I also know that I am terribly underweight for my age and height, but it is so hard to gain weight. Every day I weigh myself to see if I have managed to gain weight, because I really just want to have a healthy weight. All of my friends weigh at least 30 pounds more than I do and I just wish I could somehow gain that. Am I anorexic though, even though I WANT to gain weight? Can anyone tell me how to gain weight? Please help me!

Answer:
No, you are not anorexic if you aren't trying to keep your weight down on purpose. Some people are naturally slender, that's perfectly all right. People are out of line to ask you about anorexia or comment on your body. If it is a health concern for you, talk to your doctor. It might help you to work with a nutritionist if you want help putting on weight. Otherwise I would keep trying to take in all the healthy calories you possibly can. You don't want to put on weight from junk food. Check out this article on healthy high calorie foods, if that helps :) http://www.livestrong.com/article/34818-highcalorie-foods/

Good fattening combinations are bread, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes or sweet potatoes combined with meat, poultry, eggs, cheese, nuts or sea food. Peanut butter sandwiches are a good combination. The protein in the above combinations will help to gain extra muscles. If food doesn't work perhaps you could try bodybuilding in the gym.

Honey, Gaining weight is easy.(for me) Protein drinks, chocolate. If you aren't trying to be thin, you might have a thyroid problem. Ask a doctor. All they will do is a blood test. No big deal. I only wish I had that problem! I am being serious...get your thyroid tested. Eat higher calorie foods. And quit obsessing with the scales everyday. That is usually a sign of anorexia. If you are eating enough it could be your thyroid. If you are healthy, don't worry about it so much. I only wish I had been the thin one in school. Take care.
