Is Listerine good for your teeth?

If I use Listerine twice a day do I still have to brush my teeth?

  • If I use regular Listerine which not only would clean my teeth but my gums too, doesn't that defeat the purpose of me having to brush my teeth? Should I still do it? Why or why not?

  • Answer:

It doesn't magically floss between your teeth to get meat and other things out (which can cause cavities as the food rots). Yes, you can get cavities between your teeth from not flossing. Brushing is necessary...it puts pressure on the food and plaque stuck on the teeth and helps loosen and remove it. Brushing for at least 2 minutes (bare minimum) is necessary...it's best if it is 3 times per day. Wait about an hour to brush after eating/drinking foods and drinks with lots of sugar. Otherwise, the sugar is like sandpaper as the toothbrush scrubs back and forth on your teeth. Note that sugar eats on the teeth each time for about an hour after consuming it. No flossing and no brushing = gum disease and rotted eventually. Listerine or not.

plaque has the consistency of peanut butter. do you think you can clean peanut butter off a knife by having a light stream of water on it? No--it needs to be scrubbed off. Just like the plaque needs to be scrubbed off

Of course you need to brush. Listerine is just a mouth freshner, it won't clean your teeth/ gums.
