Stannous fluoride vs Sodium fluoride?
-
Which is better? Stannous fluoride is found in Crest Pro Health toothpaste while Sodium fluoride is found in almost every other tootpaste. PS - Wtf is fluoride ion? Thanks
-
Answer:
Both are good fluoride ingredients for toothpaste. However, Stannous fluoride can cause an acidic environment in the mouth, if used at a higher concentration...that can lead to damage to the enamel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin(II)_fluoride Fluoride ion is the active component of the original compound sodium Fl (NaF) or Stannous FL (SnF2). These compounds break down and release the active Fl component that is chemically active and forms the caries resistant fluorapatite crystals.
