Toys brought from china Are they safe?

My inlaws keep on buying toys from a relative that goes to china and other places. I dislike them because of the hazards of lead in the paint etc. I let him play with them while the inlaws were here but I put them straight out of his reach. I need to know what I am doing is right and not just a over protective mother also if anyone knows a website or the right info on these toys so if I get ask why these toys are out of site I have the right information and I can stand behind what I am saying 100%. Pop said he does not know how much they would cost over here and I said that they would not be sold over here because of safety reasons and the lead in the paint.

well not all toys from china or toys that are made in china are unsafe. i think you are right to be a bit wary about it. It will depend on the kind of toys too. If those toys do not have brand then there will be no website and possibly no information on the safety of those toys. If they have a brand name i suggest googling it. About the problem with lead in the paint, i'm guessing since there was such a big deal over that some time ago, it'll be checked a bit more closely. You don't have to keep all toys out of reach, just assess which ones you think have potential hazards and of course if you keep your child from putting the toys in his mouth than that will lower the risks.
