Making ice cubes??? do you use hot, warm or cold water?

it sounds silly, but i always use hot water. does this take longer to freeze?

Answer:
well...contrary to intuituion, since the heat capacity of water is affected significantly by temperature, hotter water actually cools quicker than colder water. Which is probably the origin of your question. However, the hot water will have to eventually become cool water and the heat capacity will have changed simultaneously. Therefore, starting with cold water will eliminate the time necessary for this transition period. If you want ice, start with the coldest water you can find. The mpemba effect only happens under certain controlled circumstances, not found in the average freezer. Try it out. Take two trays, with water at different temperatures. It would be best to use two identical freezers at the same settings and same initial temperatures (since the hot water will affect the internal temperature of everything in the freezer, including the cold water). But if you don't have two freezers, then space them as far apart as you can. And come back an hour later with a thermometer. Repeat until frozen. What did you find out?

I always use hot water, too. I do the same thing: clean out the tray and refill it with the hot water. It could take longer, but chances are, it will actually freeze more quickly if you use hot water. It's based on the Mpemba Effect (link below). It's quite interesting. So, some people will say cold, and others will swear by hot water. Do what you like best; they're your ice cubes.

I use cold water, but it doesn't matter either way. It doesn't take much longer if you use warm water since the freezer is so cold.

The basic rule is as follows Distilled or boiled water freezes faster. To explain this better...if you boil water then allow it to cool to room temperature...then also get tap water and allow it to cool to room temperature...freeze them both, then the distilled (boiled then cooled water) will freeze first. I hope this helps

HOt. I think it takes LESS time.

It's an urban myth that hot water freezes faster than cold.At some stage in the freezing process the hot water becomes cold water. Using it just wastes a cent's worth or so of power. But if you want clear ice cubes with no air bubbles, use water that has recently been boiled.
