How do I grow onions and potatoes?

Why do Potatoes/onions grow those long stocks if you let them sit?

  • I found this onion in the fridge in a plastic bag. It was all nasty and had grown some long thing on it. I also noticed with potatoes they grow out of control, why? What is that and why does it grow?

  • Answer:

    Onions and potatoes are roots. They sprout when they are stored in certain conditions. Your onion was "all nasty", because the growing leaves take nutrition from the bulb, leaving it soft and mushy.
