How do you open a coconut?

How would you crack open a coconut if you are marooned on an island?

  • Okay, if you had no tools, nothing what so ever except the rocks and trees and whatnot on the island, ow would you crack open the coconut without losing all of the milk?

    With your knife. (If you don't have a knife, you won't be able to get to the inner seed that you think of as a "coconut" anyway, since coconuts are drupes, and have a thick, fibrous exocarp surrounding the part you are thinking off that will present far more of a problem than cracking the seed!)

Hm… you could use a rock while holding the coconut in your hand and hit the coconut near the top with the rock and you would lose little if any milk
