Is the GED valid in any state in the US?

In the state of Maine, can you get your GED at the age of 16, if you been out of school 2 or more years?

  • I've been on and off with school for about three years, I will be 16 in two months & am in the 10th grade. One of my friends got her GED and said you have to be at least 17 or been out of school for at least 2 years no matter your age to get your GED. and was curious to if thats possible in the state of Maine or not., so that if it is I'm going to do that, Yes, I know i'm young but i'm so far behind on everything going on at school,I think this is best to just say i'm done and then can get a job that i've been wanting for so long. So please if anyone knows anything about the state of Maine's GED policy and if thats true, please let me know! thank you!! (:

  • Answer:

You generally have to be 18. However, if you are 17 and have been out of school one year, you can get your GED if you have an immediate need. Whether or not you have an immediate need is determined by the state of Maine.
