Should I put my name on the business bank account?

How do i add my name onto a bank account?

My boyfriend started a business 2 years ago. Just his name is on the bank account. But he has went to jail couple days ago and wants me to continue to run the business. Is there a way i can put my name on the account to continue the business? It is authorized by him 100% but he is not available to do it in person. Anyway we could do this? I know how to run the business cause i worked for him and helped him start it 2 years ago. We did not think this situation would come up and it did :-( any info would be a great help to me!

It is possible, but you'd need a power of attorney (POA) to do it. His lawyer certainly can NOT it do it without his permission, but he can draw up the forms for him. A better suggestion: I'd suggest that you get the bank's version of a power of attorney form and proceed from there. I'd be cheaper than asking the lawyer to do it and the bank might still reject the lawyers POA. Sometimes banks prefer to see their specific forms used as opposed to those created by lawyers.

NO THE LAWYER CANNOT DO IT FOR YOU ON HIS BEHALF..I DON'T EVEN THINK THAT A LETTER FROM YOU B/F,GIVEN TO YOUR LAWYER WOULD EVEN WORK. ALL HAS TO BE DONE I N THE FLESH.

It can only be done in person. Telling your bank that your boyfriend is in jail is not exactly the smartest thing to do. He should have made these preparations before committing his crime
