WHat is the different between available balance and current balance?

Bank balance: Why are my available funds different to my balance?

  • Ok so say my balance is £533.50. My available funds however are only £500.08. I know that some things take time to come out etc etc so it shows you what's really available once they've come out but in this case I'm confused.. This morning my available balance was £503.50. The bank owe me £30 which has now been put in but today I have bought something for £3.42 off my card which explains that being missing from my available funds but why is the £30 not there? I haven't spent anything else today or ordered or paid for anything. Can it just mean that although they've put it in my account it isn't actually cleared for me to use yet? Or has something gone wrong? Thanks

  • Answer:

Checks take several days to clear before you can spend the money. In the US, we have a thing called Regulation CC. UK probably has some similar provisions. Ask your bank for details. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_cc
