Can you file a new unemployment claim after the original claim is over?

Denied unemployment insurance extension & cant file a new claim for 7 months... what can I do?

  • I recently received a notice stating that I am not eligible for a UI extension. While I do not have earnings in excess of 40 times my weekly benefit amount in the base period of my regular claim, I DO have earnings in excess of 79 times my weekly benefit amount from the last quarter of my base period (December 2008) to my last day of employment (June 2009). While I understand that it is not in my base period, I am not sure what else to do as it is currently my understanding that I am not allowed to file a second claim until my original claim ending date is expired. This date of expiration is 06-19-2010... 7 months away. Is there something else I should be filing for or am I just out of luck due to the technicality?

  • Answer:

What is the reason that they say that you are not eligible for an extension? Try appealing that determination.
