What are my options for my insurance?

What are my options for insurance for a new baby?

  • First, let me explain my situation. (It's not as simple as calling my Insurance provider and adding the baby on) I'm 21 and a College student. I live in Illinois. Being 'single', I'm currently covered on my mother's insurance plan while enrolled in school. I have good insurance now, but when my baby is born in April, he will not be covered. I'm pursuing a teaching job after graduation, so even if all goes well, I won't have a job nor Insurance options until August. What are some options for healthcare that my baby will have from April-August, or possibly longer depending on the job market. I know there will be a lot of inoculations and check ups during these first 5 months, and I need some sort of Insurance option. Thank you.

  • Answer:

As a direct result of "0bamacare" most child only policies have disappeared. Welfare is your only opiton to getting the expenses paid by someone else at the beginning. After the baby is born you and the baby can get your own individual insurance policy. You need to contact a local agent because insurance companies will not accept a newborn until 15 to 180 days after birth (depending on the company and the policy) so you need to make sure you get the right policy.

There are no possible options for buying insurance for only a baby and no one else. There are three possible options for getting insurance for the baby: 1) Depending on where you live and how much money the other members of your household make, it may or may not be possible to get insurance from the government for only the baby. If insurance from the government is an option, then it is the only option for getting insurance for only the baby. However, it might not be an option, if you live with someone who makes too much money. 2) You can purchase your own insurance plan, for both yourself and the baby. 3) The baby's other parent can purchase an insurance plan for that parent and the baby.

Baby cannot be added to a grandparent's policy. So, your options are: 1. apply for welfare health insurance for baby, through your state 2. ask babydaddy to add baby to his health insurance policy through his employer 3. Buy a policy that covers BOTH you and baby together 4. Go uninsured. Thanks to the Health Reform Act, you can no longer buy "child only" health insurance policies. And you won't find private health insurance without a hefty deductible, for baby's first year, BECAUSE of all the innoculations and checkups.

I think you should not take insurance for new born baby but you should invest money for your baby.

I'm a Zarnev fan, but even before health care reform was passed you couldn't find health insurance for a new born. You couldn't insure them until they were a year old by themselves. At any rate, what's the baby's father doing for health insurance? HE needs to have a plan so that the moment the baby is born, the baby can be added to the father's plan. And, since the father isn't pregnant he should be able to get insurance on his own. Meaning, if he on one of his parent's plans, then he needs to drop off. If you have no contact with the father, then it's not going to be easy. Getting pregnant while on a parent's plan isn't ideal and it can be financially catastrophic, especially if the baby is born a few weeks too early.
