Why am I never getting charged interest on my credit cards?

How do Credit Cards Work?

  • Well I'm thinking of getting a Credit Card from Best Buy (For the 18months to pay offer without interest) so I can buy a Canon 5DmrkII BUT I don't know how credit cards work exactly (I'm not sure I'll even get the card) If i own this card will I have to pay monthly JUST for owning it? like even before I use it? or just to pay it off (which won't be a problem) and when I'm done with it (after I pay off the camera which in my estimation will be about 5-6 months) will I be charged just for having it or can I like deactivate it? or is there a time period I have to wait out?

  • Answer:

Credit cards are good to have if you ever decide on asking the bank to loan you the money. For 18 months, you will not be charged on interest - so if you owe them $1,000 - you will owe them $1,000 in 18 months if you don't pay but on the 19th month they'll be able to charge you whatever interest rate they set. I'd keep the card, pay off the Canon. You can use the card but make sure you pay it off at the end of every month so they cannot charge interest on you. You can close the account but it will hurt you credit rating.
