How can i remove a tax lien from my credit report?

Hoping for knowledgeable answers--how to get CRA to remove erroneous state tax lien from credit report?

  • I have fought this battle for about a year now. Am president/sole shareholder of small S-Corporation that has zero employees--we lease employees instead. State of FL erroneously filed unemployment tax liens against me from 2002--2005. Have sorted situation out with the State Department of Revenue directly and have legal instruments proving liens recorded in error. Additionally, Dept. of Revenue contact person wrote personal letter validating my dispute with the credit bureaus. Have had all but ONE lien removed from credit agencies through determined letter writing campaign. I am stuck on this last one and need help. Willing to go to attorney if necessary. Any other options I can explore? Please help!

  • Answer:

If you had the paperwork releasing you from the lien at the time you had disputed with the credit reporting agencies (CRA's), you had including a certified copy of the release of lien with your dispute and they failed to remove it, file an online complaint with the FTC. In your FTC complaint you would include that the CRA's had refused to accept certified documentation proving their reporting is inaccurate. (The FTC is cracking down on reporting errors of public documents) After you file the complaint with the FTC, re-dispute with the CRA's. Include a printout of the filed FTC complaint and a copy of certified documentation of the release of lien.
